Miss Imogen Drill is the P.E. teacher, and she's not a witch. This occasionally creates problems with the teachers, because Miss Drill does not think that witchcraft is the answer to everything. She believes in healthy fresh air, and "the democracy of the outdoors", and holds gym classes in the courtyard. She often sides with Miss Bat during arguments about Mildred and the girls.

Concentration and effort are elements that are important to being active and leading a healthy lifestyle, and Miss Drill can always be counted on to encourage the girls. It's no secret that long-distance running can sometimes be unpleasant, especially with Miss Drill and her trusty stopwatch. She keeps a good eye on the girls and forbids magic in her class, but she can't possibly keep her eye on everyone at the same time, and this occasionally leads to magical off-track excursions.
