Exiled Afghan Prince; jewelry merchant; suspected smuggler and fence. Born in Marseilles, in 1937, Kamal is a nephew of King Amanullah Khan -- the king of Afghanistan who was exiled from there in 1929. Amanullah settled in Italy and Switzerland, while others of his family settled elsewhere in Europe. Kamal was raised in Marseilles until 1950, when his father established a trading company in Calcutta, India. His father died in 1953. He inherited the estate without issue, and attended University of Montpellier from 1954 to 1958.
He has operated as a jewelry merchant for twenty five years, primarily in Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi, and more recently Udaipur. He is a nationally known expert in gems and precious metals. Prior to the revolt, he maintained relations with both King Zahir and his cousin President Daoud Khan. Since 1971, he has been involved both personally and financially with Octavia Smythe (aka Octopussy) -- acting as her business partner and protector. He has holdings in India, France, and England in excess of 25 million pounds.
Kamal is a talented businessman and is believed to have many contacts still within Afghanistan and elsewhere. He is known to be fluent in French, English, Spanish, Russian, Pashto, Dari, Hindi, and Punjabi. He is a superb golfer and a competitive yachtsman.
TOP SECRET: Khan is believed to have conspired with Russian General Orlov to smuggle a nuclear warhead in the Octopussy's Traveling Circus, to be detonated in the proximity of a U.S. Air Force base in Feldstadt, West Germany. He was reported by 007 to have died last year in a plane crash in Udaipur, India one week after the warhead was disarmed.
